Kenyans have reported errors in accessing the eCitizen website and concerns over delays in using the recently updated Gava Mkononi application.
It is speculated that the system may have been overloaded by those trying to access government services after the government added services to the online platform. The government recently redesigned the E-Citizen platform to include more than 5,000 services from more than 100 ministries, state agencies, and county governments.

Reports also say that the government service platform may have been targeted by hackers. According to a report by Kenyans dated June 30, To protest what they claim is Kenya’s intervention in their country’s affairs, a group of Sudanese hackers has claimed that they have knocked down several Kenyan websites, including important government websites like e-Citizen and notable firms. Private businesses that were impacted by the hacking spree were able to quickly repair their websites, minimizing service interruptions.
Kenyans have expressed concern over the safety of their information online in case of a hacking incident on the eCitizen platform.
Since the Gava Mkononi App was launched, the government has reported that more than 100, 000 Kenyans have put it into use. Speaking to the media, immigration principal secretary Julius Bitok earlier stated that after all services are implemented, they anticipate the figure to reach one million each day.

In a recent interview, Eliud Owalo, the cabinet secretary for information, communication, and the digital economy, revealed that the eCitizen platform was the target of a cyberattack. The CS said that none of the data in the system was accessed by hackers. He reiterated that the government is working to increase risk mitigation measures to prevent future attacks on the system.
