Kindiki termed the allegations of police brutality as well as extrajudicial killings as false. He said that the goal of spreading such claims was to divert citizens’ attention from the organisers of the demonstrations in the first place.

The CS blamed the Azimio Coalition for calling for the protests in the first place. According to him, it is the protests that led to the deaths of protesters and those injured. He further stated that the deaths caused would fall solely on the hands of the Azimio leaders who called for the protests in the first place.

“Claims that the National Police Service (NPS) officers and other law enforcement personnel are engaged in extrajudicial executions and/ or excessive use of force against the public or any section thereof are malicious. The allegations are intended to distort public opinion regarding the recent organization of violence that took place in some parts of the country” stated Kindiki.

“The architects of the ‘false’ narrative bear responsibility for planning, financing and executing the heinous crimes resulting in death and injury of civilians and law enforcement officers…” he added.

Evidence against organisers of the protests

Furthermore, the CS mentioned that the relevant authorities had evidence gathered during the protests. According to him, the evidence would be sufficient to lead to the arrest and prosecution of the leaders. This is inclusive of the individuals funding and planning the chaos of the demonstrations.

Police Brutality during protests

The evidence that has been garnered according to the CS includes crude weapons and drugs allegedly seized from the individuals during last week’s demonstrations. The weapons and drugs were meant to fuel the destruction of various parts of the country, as per the CS.

” It has been established that licensed and unlicensed firearms supplied by the masterminds of the recent violence were used to kill or injure civilians and security personnel, and the blame shifted to security officers,” noted the CS.

In addition to this, the CS mentioned that youthful goons have been propagating violence while masquerading as peaceful protesters. The goons would be brought to justice despite what the CS termed as antics of politicization and ethnicization of the issue.

The refutation from the CS comes after the Azimio Coalition leaders threatened to take the state to ICC due to police brutality. The faction mentioned that they had garnered sufficient evidence as well, to take the matter to Hague.

In Raila’s speech to the International media, he termed the killings as the beginning of genocide and political killings. This is due to the alleged violence directed towards the Luo people. The citizens were allegedly being removed from their homes and shot of clobbered by the police.
