Woman Confessed to Stealing and Selling Babies for Ksh 50k

A woman was arrested and she later allegedly confessed to stealing and selling babies. She was arrested in Mlolongo, Machakos County for allegedly being part of a child theft syndicate in the area. She also confessed to stealing and selling three children who were reported missing.

Miriam Wesonga, the woman who was arrested and confessed, was caught after a resident witnessed her in the act. She was fleeing after allegedly stealing a two-and-a-half-year-old baby boy. This happened in March 2023 and the child was found in Kakamega County after being sold.

Residents took her to the chief’s office after one of them told them of her whereabouts. This is where she was arrested and later she confessed to her involvement in the theft syndicate. She allegedly talked about her involvement with the illegal business of stealing and selling babies. 

Miriam allegedly confessed to working with two more people in the syndicate. She received a total of 50K for delivering the child to her client.

She has been remanded at the Mlolongo police Station where she will provide more information on the syndicate. She is to identify the two other accomplices in the operation and their whereabouts. She is also supposed to help the police trace the other children who have been reported as lost. 

Peter Ndunda, mentions that ” There has been a rise in missing children cases here in Mlolongo recently.”

All of this comes two months after Christine Masika was arrested by the police at Kasarani. She was arrested as a suspect in selling a five-day-old baby for Ksh 400,000 to detectives. Is now remanded at the Langata Women’s Prison.
