Kenyans on twitter Speak Against Discrimination at the Safari Rally

Kenyans on Twitter have taken on the mandate to speak about the revelations of some Kenyan drivers at the Safari Rally. The revelations were about discrimination against Kenyan drivers during the awarding ceremony at the event on June 25.

“The rally was a great initiative for us and we really enjoyed it. However, we feel that we were not given the same recognition as others, because as soon as the big boys left, everyone including officials was not there. We were left to award each other,” says Joe, one of the Kenyan drivers ranked sixth in the competition.

One fan twitted that discrimination at WRC was dehumanizing to Kenyan-born and bred drivers who had equally performed well in the competition.

The fan said it was not fair for the Kenyan drivers, as they did not receive any recognition from the leaders.

“I’m born and bred in Naivasha. When we arrived here, hundreds of my Naivasha fans came out screaming my name. And after it all, do I have to receive my award from a casual model? Not even, at least, from my area Governor? What happened to recognise homegrown talent?” Said Joe disheartened at the award ceremony.

There were also talks about inequality in funding by Kenyan corporates for local sports events compared to WRC.
