A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. How one can say this and sit down pretty expecting to teleport to their destination is nothing short of a joke. In order to succeed, one has to get up, get out and get going. However, how one goes about this matters a lot. Setting out on a journey to success requires some discipline, purpose and intent. Nevertheless, putting oneself out there for the wrong reasons and in the wrong manner comes with its penalties. On the other hand, doing it the right way has its rewards.
Do Not Do It For Attention
Evidently, there is nothing as short-lived as attention. If anything, attention gets you seen. It does not get you noticed. There are some grave consequences that come with trying to amass attention to your craft, especially as a beginner. Chances are, one ends up drawing attention to themselves instead. Instead, focus on perfecting and growing your craft rather than hyping it. Attention and hype come with chaos, noise, distractions and unnecessary opinions. In any case, drawing attention to oneself could backfire and one might end up being a point of unsolicited criticism and admonition. Chema chajiuza, kibaya chajitembeza. (A good thing sells itself, a bad one has to be ‘hawked’)

Validate Yourself First Before Seeking Validation From Others
It is important, however, to note that validation does not always have to be affirmative. As much as one may want to officially accept themselves and their craft, it is also required that one be honest with themselves while at it. Having faith in what one does is the first step in validating oneself. Emphatically, believe that you are good and authentic at what you do and always be open to learning and growing in your domain. Of course, there is always someone that is just as good or even better than you. Be open to assessment, analysis, evaluation and even appraisal. This is how one gets validation from others.
Do It For Recognition
Everyone on earth has something in which they naturally excel at. Life’s beauty lies in its diversity. In all honestly, had all of us been created with the same abilities the world would have been a very boring place. Hence, there is no crime in shining your light and showing it off to the world. Add some spice to life by revealing to the world what you can do and how uniquely you do it. There could be someone out there that could learn from you, guide you and even benefit from what you do. Do it for acknowledgement, acceptance, appreciation and admission.

Do It For You
On the whole, no one knows why and how you do what you do better than you. Do it for reasons that bring you satisfaction and gratification. Do it because it is among the reasons for your existence. Do it because you love it. Do it like you were born for it. Do it like you are a god in that Kingdom. Do it like an able ruler in that territory. Do it for you. After all, it is your own success that you are after.
