Gunman Abducts 25 Worshippers in Nigeria Church

On Sunday, a Baptist church located in the Chikun area of Kaduna State, northwestern Nigeria was attacked by a gunman who abducted 25 worshippers.

This attack is part of a series of insecurity challenges faced in Nigeria, and it adds to the task of the newly elected president, Bola Tinubu, who is set to assume office later this month.

Initially, the attackers had abducted 40 individuals from the Bege Baptist Church.

According to Rev. Joseph Hayab, who is the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kaduna state, 15 out of the 40 abducted individuals from the Bege Baptist Church managed to escape the attackers.

The remaining 25 are still being held captive. The police in Kaduna confirmed the occurrence of the attack on Sunday but have not provided any further details.

Last month, an attack in a village in Kaduna State resulted in the death of 33 people by gunmen.

The attack was part of a larger conflict between herding and farming communities over water resources and grazing land.

In the earlier part of the same month, an incident involving the abduction of ten school children also occurred in central Kaduna.

However, two weeks after their abduction, eight of the children managed to escape their captors.

The newly elected president, Bola Tinubu, who is set to assume office later this month, will have the task of prioritizing the issue of insecurity in Nigeria and working towards finding a solution to improve the security situation in the country.

The Nigerian government has been criticized for not doing enough to address the root causes of the conflict and for failing to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
