He went on to insist that the bill had no sense to it and that there were no clear criteria used to discern whether people are in same-sex relationships.

“What science are they using to identify people as gay? Museveni could wake up one day and accuse Bobbi Wine of being gay and have him prosecuted,” Malema said.

In the demonstrations, were some of the party’s die-hard supporters, who showed up in the party’s wear.

The team led by Malema claimed that the bill was dangerous and if passed, would risk the loss of many harmless lives. Malema, who was adorned in a rainbow flag, the symbolic representation of the LGBTQ community went further ahead to state that he and his party, Economic Freedom Fighters, (EFF) would not sit in the corner, to watch innocent people die because of something as minute as sexual identity.

“No one must take away an individual or community’s life based on their identity. We cannot say we are celebrating Human Rights Day in South Africa, yet another part of Africa needs to celebrate human rights,” Malema said.

“We are saying Museveni leave the people as they are. It cannot be that you identify people based on hatred, and then you kill them. I am here to tell the people of Uganda we are with you against the tyrant,” Malema added.

Malema had announced the demonstrations via his twitter handle the previous day, urging his supporters to show up in a united front against the bill.

The party presented a memorandum to Uganda’s high commission office, with demands to the country to reverse the bill.

Ugandan Members of parliament recently passed a homosexuality bill that will see all persons found guilty of being in same-sex relationships either facing jail time of not more than 10 years or put to death. According to the lawmakers, the relations would interfere with the moral compass of Ugandan society if not handled with caution.
