With the need to easily access places, Google maps has got us covered. Over time, it has however captured sights that remain scary and unexplainable.

Google maps. The one friend that has got our backs as far as location accessibility is concerned. Added to the fact that they are so easy to use, there is no beating this technology. Even then, Google maps have on several occasions captured the eeriest of sights, some of which would have only been considered legends and myths had they not been photographed.

  • Desert’s lips

The lips of the desert or the ‘Gebel Barkal’ is a hill formation found in Karima, about 400 km from Sudan’s capital, Khartoum. The name originates from the fact that the hill formation is similar to a person’s lips.

  • Italy’s most wanted

Google maps saved the day after capturing 20-year-old Gioacchino Gammino, Italy’s most wanted gangster. Gammino was apprehended after thorough police scrutiny established it was him in the photo. Maybe justice systems should start using Google maps, it proves effective.

  • A military banker dated back to the cold war

Many military bankers have been discovered over time. However, what stands out about this abandoned military banker caught on Google maps, is that it dates back to the cold war.

  • Human-like scarecrows

Now, scarecrows are not all that scary. However, what makes this one of the eerie Google maps’ captures is that the scarecrows amounting to 1000 figures have a cunning resemblance to real human beings. The fact that the set is called ‘silent people’ does nothing to calm one’s nerves. The artist Reijo Kela must have had some thoughts crafting this up.

  • Doll town’ in Japan

Google maps put on a record of Nagoro, a small town in Japan that is mostly made up of life-size dolls. These dolls were created by Ayano Tsukimi, a local artist who wanted to replace most of the village’s residents who had either left or passed away. Talk about eerie.

  • A Ferris wheel…with cages

One Reddit user came across this image on Google maps and decided to share it. The image is that of a Ferris wheel, not a normal Ferris wheel but one with cages. This is some area 51 kind of madness, no doubt.

  • The lake of blood

Google maps captured a blood-red lake in the Sadr City district near Baghdad, Iraq. According to scientists, the lake’s water is red because of nearby factory emissions and sewage contamination. Many residents in the area as well as people around the world are yet to come to terms with the eerie feature.
