The first shipment of Wheat Grain as part of Ukraine’s own initiative to supply countries in need arrived on Monday, December 5,2022, in Djibouti.
Wheat arrival in Djibouti is a signal of delivering process to the neighboring country Ethiopia amid the region’s harsh drought conditions.
Noting the process, Ukraine’s embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia confirmed that the Wheat Grain Ukraine shipment of 25,000 tons is separate from a United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP) effort that has funded Humanitarian grain shipments from Ukraine.

A second Ship with 30,000 tons of Wheat will be heading to Ethiopia next week, while a 3rd Vessel is being loaded with 25,000 tons of Wheat Grain bound for Somalia, an embassy statement said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last month announced the initiative aimed at helping Countries that are facing a food crisis.
The Ukrainian Government said that it plans to send more than 60 Ships to South Sudan, Kenya, Yemen, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Congo, and other Countries.
Millions of people in countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia are sleeping hungry during a drought following the 5th straight failed Rainy season, while conflicts in Ethiopia and Somalia have typically worsened the crisis.

Further, Ethiopia has not yet commented on the new Grain Shipment deal from Ukraine.
But Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in August this year criticized reports of the United Nations’ effort to Ship Wheat Grain from Ukraine to Ethiopia as an attempt to paint a picture that we are starved.
