The first annual edition of the Nairobi Festival has unleashed the Matatu Culture to the world. The Nganya Awards make a comeback.

The last time the Nganya Awards were held was back in 2018. Four years later and Kenya’s Matatu Culture has grown tremendously. The public transport industry was described by Forbes, in 2017, as the practice of pimped-out, color-exploding, happy-tatted local transit buses. 🔥

Nairobi’s Governor Johnson Sakaja introduced and launched the ‘Nairobi Festival’, a six-day celebration of the ‘vibe of the city’. Speaking at the event Sakaja said, “Our young people have talent. We are showcasing sixteen films from today and documentaries shot by young people in Nairobi over this week period…Our creative economy has potential of being a mega employer. We are in a global village and we must give our young people tools they require to compete not just locally but globally.”
