It is funny how you are complaining about how your boyfriend detests showering when he could potentially have a phobia for water.
Sometimes, we encounter a situation that makes us shake in fear. We get sweaty palms, headaches, abnormal breathing, or trembling like a fragile leaf. Oh yeah, it could be a phobia. Phobias are exaggerated feelings or irrational fears. Many people think you are just seeking attention when in reality, you are losing your mind.

Phobias are caused by many things such as a frightening experience or a stressful event. Sometimes, children acquire these phobias by ‘assimilating’ them from the people in their vicinity.
Here are some phobias common to people:
- Aquaphobia
This is fear of water. You freak out when you see large masses of water, like a pool or the ocean. Chances are, you are a natural sinker. Then there’s your boyfriend who rarely makes appointments with the shower. It’s probably aquaphobia.

- Emetophobia
This is fear of vomiting. So many people cannot stand the sight of another person’s vomit, let alone their own. It is somewhat logical considering how uncomfortable the experience is.

- Acrophobia
This is fear of heights. A very common phobia that most people do not know the actual name of. This fear limits one from very high places or even amusement rides.
- Hypochondria
Are you having anxieties thinking about sickness? You must have this phobia then. Everyone hates falling ill unless you are just internally psychotic. However, there is a specific crowd who go insane when they get sick. They not only become sick physically, but they also get sick in the head. (Pun unintended).
- Algophobia
Fear of pain. People with this phobia steer clear of anything that can induce pain in them. It is quite ironic though, how Jennifer is staying with that man who makes her cry so much you’d think she’s dating an onion. Such pain, but she loves him anyway, right?

- Claustrophobia
This is a fear of enclosed spaces. It makes people have panic attacks or unsettled feelings when in a room that is too small. Sometimes they feel like the air is running out which is quite irrational but hey, irrational is phobia’s definition, no?
- Gamophobia
Fear of marriage. Most young people can relate. Just thinking about settling down with a person irks you, scares you to death, or both. It is the phobia all right.
There are so many phobias even human nature has not come into contact with yet. However, for people with phobias, seeking counselling helps big time. Some say that another effective way of overcoming phobias is to just try those things that scare you. Well, that is debatable.
