You Don’t Have to Figure Everything Out in Your 20s

Young people have this unnecessary pressure to figure everything out in their 20s leaving themselves no time to have fun and explore.

Asking around any group of young people, there is a lot of tension and anxiety about the future among them. Young people are thinking a lot, trying to figure out how they can get that bag, be that girl or boy, be financially independent, and move out of their mother’s house quickly because the rate at which she is shouting is enough to make their eardrums scream for days.

We are scared about how our relationships are not working, or the fact that most of the guys you cleared high school with are already married with one kid, yet here you are, at home, with no job, broke beyond recognition (you have such a huge Okoa Jahazi, it’s almost terrifying) and busy sulking just because James forgot your birthday.  It is understandable. The thing is though, you do not have to have it all in your 20s. There is no pressure to get a well-paying job (not that you should decline it if it comes along), you do not have to worry about being in a relationship let alone breaking up, and neither should you be in such a rush to be so independent and move out of home just so you can prove how much of a big boy you have become.

Even when all these things are vital for the future, there should not be any pressure to get them all now. Good things come to those who wait and work toward them. Think of every day as a milestone in getting to where you want to be in the future.
