While addressing the press at KICC on Tuesday, August 15, Azimio presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, said that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati’s declaration and announcement of William Ruto as president-elect was null and void.

“Our view in Azimio is clear, the figures by Wafula Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view, there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a president-elect”.

The statement further noted that the IEBC chair decided upon the result on his own without involving the rest of the IEBC commissioners, as is a requirement by the law.

“The law does not vest in the chairperson, the powers of a dictator to rule IEBC unilaterally. Decisions must be taken by consensus or by a vote of the majority,” Raila stated.

Earlier on, the four IEBC Commissioners released a statement claiming that the IEBC chairman dismissed them in a very crucial duty of the commission, that is discussing the outcome of the Presidential results.

The statement also indicates that the Azimio team has rejected and dismissed the results to be Null and Void.

The Azimio team will now have to file their petition within seven days after the presidential results are announced.

Raila said Azimio will pursue all the legal parameters at its disposal in seeking to annul Deputy President William Ruto’s win.

“We will be pursuing all constitutional and legal options available to us. We will do so because we regard the many flaws in the election and the wrongs committed by IEBC as fatal to the process and outcome announced by Mr. Chebukati.”

He accused Chebukati of deliberately trying to overturn the will of the people who voted on August 9.

Raila made the statement after meeting Azimio leaders in response to the declaration of Deputy President William Ruto as the President-Elect.

In conclusion, the Azimio leader applauded the supporters for remaining calm and maintaining peace as they are exploring the case legally.

The Azimio leader also commended the four IEBC commissioners who stepped down disowning the ‘Opaque’ Presidential results.

“I want to commend our supporters for keeping calm and keeping peace and urge them to continue doing so. Let no one take the law into their own hands. Justice will prevail,” he stated.
