Wanjigi suffered a setback following the rejection of his documents by the IEBC. The electoral commission denied him from vying for presidency in the upcoming General Election.

Furthermore, he assured Kenyans that, despite the fact that the electoral board denied him the opportunity, his name will still appear on the ballot paper come August 9.

Wanjigi, who presented his documents to the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati was told he did not have a degree.

Chebukati said that Wanjigi did not present a degree certificate as required by law and instead submitted transcripts.

Wanjigi further submitted a letter to the IEBC confirming that he was due to graduate from Daystar University come December 2022.

IEBC also described that Wanjigi did not meet the 2000 signature requirement from 24 Counties as far as the Election Act is concerned.

His agents challenged the IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati to clear Wanjigi considering IEBC cleared Walter Mong’are alias Nyambane, who presented a similar letter from the university.

The IEBC chair however stated that he had no time to address the issues of a person who was absent and hence referred Wanjigi and his team to seek redress from the Dispute Resolution Committee.

Wanjigi however grabbed the mic from his agent and addressed Chebukati, telling him that he would not get away with it.

“It is very clear what is going on. There is an elimination process that is being decided somewhere else. You cannot apply different rules to different people and if this is the intention then I fear greatly for the coming election,” Wanjigi said.

Wanjigi blamed IEBC for being unfair in assessing and approving documents referring to the Nyambane case of being cleared by the same board, despite having similar documents.

In addition, he claimed that his papers were approved by the IEBC team once he had a pre-nomination conference.

“We have been in touch with this commission. We even had a pre-nomination conference with your people. We were told all the documents are in order. We are privy to a previous candidate being passed on the same documentation (education) as we have presented and we were told it is okay.

“You used that discretion on another candidate but you don’t want to use it on me. I want to say categorically hear that there is an elimination going on because some people don’t want to see me on the ballot and you will not get away with it. This is a country of laws and adheres to the constitution,” Wanjigi cautioned before Chebukati tried to cut short his impromptu address.

“Don’t try and cut me, don’t cut me, don’t cut me,” the businessman repeated to Chebukati before his mic was switched off.

While addressing the press, Wanjigi reassured Kenyans his name will still be on the ballot paper.

“There seems to be a clear decision that there are people who must not be on the ballot paper and I am one of them. I want to assure Kenyans that I will be on the ballot for the August 9, general election,” said Wanjigi as he denounces the current Jubilee Government that claimed to have subjected people to an economic setback.
