Ruto renews attack on Uhuru
President William Ruto has renewed his criticism of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Uhuru was described as a “rebel leader” by Ruto during a political tour of Siaya County.
The remarks followed a High Court ruling barring Kenyatta from holding office in a political party, according to the report. Ruto said the former president should have taken on the role of a statesman after leaving office.
Instead, he accused him of remaining active in opposition politics.
Court ruling welcomed
The President said the ruling had exposed what he called a failure to respect the presidency.
“Mimi nashangaa, mtu ambaye amekuwa Rais wa Kenya, unaacha kiti ya Rais, badala ya kwenda kuwa statesman, unaenda kuwa rebel leader,” Ruto said.
He added that Kenyatta had brought shame to the office he once held. The President also accused his predecessor of supporting efforts against his administration.
Those claims were made during a campaign event in Siaya.
Opposition leaders criticised
Ruto also turned his criticism towards opposition leaders. They were accused of lacking clear plans for the country.
“Kenya is too important. Our nation is too important to be left to games of guesswork,” he said.
The President urged voters to reject what he described as political uncertainty. His remarks were made in the political backyard of ODM leaders.
Wanga questions opposition agenda
ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga also criticised opposition figures. She questioned the parties and agendas behind their challenge to the government.
“Hao watu wenye hawana chama ndiyo wanasema watakutoa kwa kiti?” Wanga said.
“Chama hawana. Ajenda hawana.”
Her comments added to the criticism directed at the opposition during the tour.
Junet highlights divisions
National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed focused on divisions within the opposition. He referred to disagreements involving leaders in the region.
“Gavana ya hapa wanapigana na Sifuna,” he said.
He also questioned who held authority within the opposition camp. The comments reflected the growing political contest ahead of the 2027 elections.
Leaders praise Ruto projects
Several leaders who accompanied Ruto praised his development record. Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi said Siaya had been shown attention by the President.
“Wewe umetuonyesha wewe ni rafiki wetu wa kweli,” Wandayi said.
He urged those present to support Ruto’s political direction. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi also backed the President. He said the Luo community would not support what he described as criminals in 2027.
“2027 tutatembea pamoja,” Mbadi said.
Roads and bridge inspected
Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo also pledged support for Ruto. The President’s visit included several development activities.
Construction of the Kalandi-Ka Elija Road and Rabongo Usenge Road was launched. The Dhogoye Bridge in Bondo Constituency was also inspected.
The projects were presented as part of the government’s development agenda in the region.
