Golf icon Tiger Woods has been released on bail following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence after a car crash in Florida.
The 15-time major champion was taken into custody after his vehicle rolled over during an incident in Jupiter Island on Friday afternoon.
Authorities confirmed that Woods spent eight hours in custody, the minimum required under state law, before being granted bail.
Details of the Crash and Arrest
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was driving a Land Rover when the accident occurred. Sheriff John Budensiek stated that the golfer clipped a pressure-cleaning truck while allegedly attempting to overtake it at high speed, causing his vehicle to overturn.
The crash, which happened in Jupiter Island, did not result in any injuries. Woods reportedly had to crawl out of the passenger side door after the vehicle came to a stop.
Authorities charged Woods with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test. While officers did not initially suspect alcohol impairment, Budensiek indicated that an unknown substance may have been involved.
Woods passed a breathalyzer test administered at the scene but later declined to undergo a urine test, which contributed to the additional charge.
Legal Implications and Next Steps
Under Florida law, refusal to comply with a lawful test can carry serious legal consequences, including license suspension and additional penalties.
The case is expected to proceed through the courts as investigators determine the exact cause of impairment.
This latest incident adds to a series of off-course challenges for the golf legend, whose career has spanned decades and redefined the sport.
