Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly clashed with Suna East MP Mohammed Junet, escalating political tensions after the ODM legislator dismissed the former DP as a liar during a recent media interview.
The spat erupted after Junet, a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, launched a scathing attack on Gachagua’s credibility, questioning both his integrity and political relevance.
“It’s an embarrassment to be associated with Gachagua. The only truth we know is that he is the husband of Dorcas Rigathi; anything else is a lie,” Junet said.
“He keeps talking about ODM, yet when he was in power, he used to go to the office at 5 a.m. to stop ODM’s maandamano.”
Gachagua Fires Back
Responding angrily, Gachagua accused the Suna East MP of engaging in abusive rhetoric and lacking a meaningful legislative record.
“Niliona hii kijana inaitwa Junet inanitukana na ni sawa, mdomo mrefu ya kutukana watu na hakuna kazi anafanya,” Gachagua said, brushing off the remarks but questioning Junet’s contribution in Parliament.
The former DP went further, making explosive allegations that Junet played a central role in Raila Odinga’s failed 2022 presidential bid, accusing him of misappropriating funds meant for grassroots mobilisation.
According to Gachagua, the alleged misuse of campaign resources weakened ODM’s outreach and ultimately cost the opposition the presidency.
The exchange reflects widening fault lines within Kenya’s political landscape, with Gachagua increasingly positioning himself as a vocal critic of ODM while Junet remains one of the party’s fiercest defenders.
The war of words signals early political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 election cycle, as key figures seek to shape public narratives.
