Winnie Odinga has issued a strong message to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership, openly pushing back against calls to sideline outspoken youthful politicians within the party.
In a bold defence of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Winnie insisted that the two leaders represent the present and future of ODM and cannot be pushed out.
Speaking during a charged political engagement over the weekend, Winnie dismissed internal pressure aimed at forcing young leaders out of the party, questioning the logic behind such moves.
She challenged those advocating for the exit of vocal figures, warning that ODM risks hollowing itself out by alienating leaders who connect with the youth and grassroots supporters.
“Hakuna mtu atatolewa kwenye hii chama… wanasema tutoke kwenye chama watabaki na nani?” Winnie said, making it clear that ODM belongs to its members and not a select few power brokers.
Tensions Rise in ODM
Her remarks come at a time when ODM has faced visible internal tensions, particularly around outspoken leaders who have occasionally clashed with senior party figures over political direction.
Babu Owino and Sifuna have both remained influential voices, especially among young voters, despite facing sustained criticism and political pressure.
Winnie’s intervention is likely to reignite debate within ODM over generational leadership and the party’s future direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
