Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth figure McOure has issued a scathing public rebuke of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for celebrating what he termed a “non-existent” victory in Nanam Ward.
The controversy stems from Sifuna’s congratulatory message to winners of the 27 by-elections, in which he listed the Nanam Ward MCA seat in Turkana West Constituency as an ODM win, a move McOure says distorts political reality since the seat was won by United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Cosmas Long’or.
In a strongly worded statement, McOure questioned whether Sifuna’s remarks should now be interpreted as the party’s official position.
He argued that Sifuna’s celebration confirmed two troubling realities, that the presence of Broad Based candidates is no longer in dispute, and that the party’s spokesperson appears to lack the attentiveness and rigour required when commenting on sensitive electoral outcomes.
According to McOure, ODM had no grounds for claiming victory in Nanam Ward. He however insisted that Kariobangi North “should have been, and would have been,” an ODM victory had Sifuna directed even a fraction of his energy there rather than “sanitising party dissidents and those determined to sabotage the Broad Based Arrangement.”
The criticism underscored simmering tensions within ODM over internal discipline, messaging, and commitment to the emerging coalition framework.
McOure accused the Secretary General of prioritising “sideshows, slogans, and theatrics” instead of safeguarding the party’s core electoral interests.
The confrontation marks yet another escalation in the ongoing friction between McOure and Sifuna, with the former repeatedly accusing the SG of double speak and advancing personal positions that contradict the party’s official stance.
