Netflix will premiere a new four-part docuseries on Sean “Diddy” Combs on 2 December, offering a deep dive into the music mogul’s meteoric rise and dramatic fall. The series, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, is executive produced by Combs’ longtime rival, rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

The series traces Combs’ career from the founding of Bad Boy Records, which launched stars like The Notorious B.I.G. and Danity Kane, to the scandals and legal troubles that have shadowed his success. Netflix promises “explosive, never-before-seen material,” including interviews with people formerly close to Combs, though the participants remain undisclosed.

Alex Stapleton, an Emmy-winning director, said the documentary is more than a portrait of Combs or his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, who accused him of sexual assault. “It’s a mirror,” Stapleton explained. “It reflects us as the public and what it says about the way we place our celebrities on pedestals.”

Jackson announced his intention to produce the series last December. On Tuesday, he shared a poster on Instagram alongside his 2007 hit, I Get Money, which mentions Combs directly. “They said I was capping, 🤷 what happened?” he wrote.

Combs’ legal troubles form a central focus. In July, a federal jury convicted him on two counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution after a two-month trial. Prosecutors alleged that he coerced ex-girlfriends into sexual acts and operated a criminal enterprise. Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which carried potential life sentences.

In October, he was sentenced to 50 months in prison and is scheduled for release in May 2028. Combs is appealing his convictions and is enrolled in a prison sobriety programme, which could reduce his sentence.

The docuseries is expected to spark discussion about celebrity culture, accountability, and the blurred line between fame and infamy.
