Yemi Alade’s “Mbali” Earns Grammy Consideration as Afro-Pop Star Redefines Joy and Freedom

Grammy Consideration

LAGOS, Nigeria — Award-winning singer Yemi Alade has returned with “Mbali”, a breezy, soul-soothing anthem that’s quickly capturing hearts worldwide — and now, Grammy voters’ attention.

The Nigerian music powerhouse, known for her electric stage presence and bold African storytelling, is under Grammy consideration for Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance for the hit single.

Released under Effyzzie Music, “Mbali” — which means “Far” in Swahili — is more than a song. It’s a musical deep breath. Alade’s smooth vocals float over warm Afro-pop rhythms, offering an invitation to escape pressure, reclaim peace, and choose joy.

“Mbali is the song you play to live your life – after a long day’s job, when you’re starting your morning or when it’s time to party the African way,” Yemi Alade said in a statement. “It’s about choosing joy, claiming your space and protecting your mental peace.”

Produced by Yasso, the same hitmaker behind her GRAMMY-nominated single “Tomorrow” from the 2024 Rebel Queen album, “Mbali” marks another high note in Alade’s ever-evolving artistry. The video, praised for its colourful visuals and cultural elegance, has been met with global acclaim and millions of streams.

Following the success of “My Padi”, “Mbali” continues to build momentum ahead of Alade’s upcoming album. It’s a reminder of why she remains one of the continent’s most influential voices — constantly redefining what it means to be African, female, and free.

From performing at AFCON’s opening ceremony to gracing global platforms like the United Nations, Global Citizen, and even performing for the British Royal Family, Alade’s career has been a masterclass in artistic consistency and global reach.

With “Mbali”, she extends her legacy — crafting music that’s not only danceable but deeply human.

“We live in such a fast-paced world,” she said. “Sometimes, you just need to go far — even if that’s just in your spirit.”

“Mbali” is now streaming on all major platforms
