Journalist Larry Madowo has hinted he may file a defamation lawsuit against Kibra MP Peter Orero’s driver, days after the driver pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and obstructing traffic.
The driver, George Oduor, was fined KSh100,000 by the Milimani Traffic Court after a viral video showed him blocking motorists along Nairobi’s Oloitoktok Road.
Madowo, who was caught up in the incident, later revealed that Oduor had insulted him during the confrontation, allegedly calling him “takataka” — Swahili for “trash.”
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Madowo said he was considering legal action, sharing a screenshot of a follower urging him to take the matter further.
“What do you guys think? Yes or no? I’ll do whatever the public decides,” he wrote.
The shared message read:
“Good morning Larry, what you did was commendable. Apart from the traffic offence that was preferred against the driver, you can also pursue him for defamation by calling you ‘takataka’. Please reach out for purposes of writing a demand letter to have him render an apology.”
Madowo added that while Oduor apologised to the court, he had not offered him a personal apology.
“He apologised to the court but not to me,” the journalist said.
The altercation, which was widely circulated online, reignited debate on impunity by drivers of government officials and the mistreatment of ordinary road users.
