Dar es Salaam — Kenyan media personality Azeezah Hashim has sent a heartfelt message to Tanzanians after receiving what she called “genuine love” during Yanga Day celebrations at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The event, held on Friday night, marked the 90th anniversary of Young Africans SC, one of Tanzania’s most celebrated football clubs. Thousands packed the stadium to watch a star-studded line-up of artists and entertainers.
Although Azeezah did not get the chance to perform, she said the reception left her deeply moved.
“Wananchiiii!!! I love you so much it hurts,” she wrote on Instagram the following day. “My team, my family, Yanga SC, you will always remain at the top. Although I did not get to perform, you showed me genuine love in the short time I was at Mkapa.”
She described the moment as unforgettable and told fans she felt a personal debt of gratitude. “I owe you, Wananchi! We will meet soon, and we will vibe until the end,” she promised.
The night also belonged to Tanzanian star Zuchu, who headlined the show with nearly 100 dancers. She later broke down in tears as she recalled becoming the first woman to lead Yanga Day celebrations.
In a video shared online, Zuchu said her husband’s encouragement and her mother’s prayers helped her through sleepless rehearsals and the weight of expectation. “The people around me give me a very strong support system,” she said. “They really support me and I am very grateful.”
With performances from artists like Meja Kunta and Dogo Paten, Yanga Day blended football pride with a festival atmosphere. For Azeezah, the short time spent in Dar es Salaam may have been fleeting, but the memories—and her promise to return—are set to linger.
