Police in Eldoret have launched an investigation into a disturbing incident in which a man received a parcel containing three human fingers and six bullets.
The middle-aged man reported the matter to Eldoret Central Police Station after being contacted by a motorcycle taxi rider, a stranger, who told him to collect his parcel in the central business district.
He said that after receiving the envelope, he opened it immediately only to be met with a horrifying sight. Inside were three severed human fingers and six live bullets.
Shaken, the man raised the alarm. Passers-by, equally shocked, alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and took possession of the items. The fingers were transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for further examination.
The bullets are being held at Eldoret Central Police Station as officers begin ballistic testing to determine their origin and potential use.
Police say the sender of the parcel is still unknown. The boda boda rider who delivered it is now assisting officers as they search for the person who sent the items.
“This is a serious matter and investigations are ongoing,” said an officer familiar with the case, who declined to be named because they were not authorised to speak publicly.
The incident has left many residents unsettled. Some say they have never seen anything like it before in the town.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to help establish the motive and the people behind the delivery.
