UMG East Africa Signs the Remarkable Njerae

Universal Music Group East Africa has signed Kenyan musical prodigy Njerae to its diverse roster.

This partnership is a breakthrough for Njerae, a former indie sensation, as she merges her soulful, genre-defying sound with UMG’s global platform.

“Teaming up with Universal is like adding jet fuel to my creative vision. With their resources and expertise, I’m ready to craft next-level music and connect with fans in ways I’ve only dreamed of.” Njerae enthused, sharing her elation.

UMG EA’s General Manager, Chinasa Udeala, couldn’t agree more, noting, “Njerae is the voice of a new wave in East African music. Her sound transcends borders and speaks to the core of human experience, uniting listeners across generations and cultures. We’re thrilled to have her on board and can’t wait to see where this collaboration takes us.”

Njerae’s ascent in the music scene has been nothing short of meteoric.

From her humble beginnings at Sauti Academy to dominating stages at both indie festivals like Wazi Wazi and iconic gatherings like Blankets & Wine, she’s earned her place in the spotlight.

Her debut album, Unintentional (2022), was a soulful manifesto that resonated deeply with audiences, and her 2023 hit “OTD” solidified her status, earning a spot on People Daily’s “Songs of the Year” list.

Spotify Africa also recognized her talent, featuring her as the face of their Fresh Finds playlist earlier this year.

Hot off the success of her latest EP Out with the Old, Njerae is poised to be Kenya’s Alté music ambassador.

Despite the glamorous allure of signing with UMG, she remains grounded, telling fans, “This is a huge step, but it’s just the start. I’m committed to working even harder to create bigger, better hits.”

Kefa, Njerae’s manager, echoed these sentiments, praising the partnership with UMG for the increased visibility it will bring. “This deal is a game-changer. It’s going to open up vast opportunities for Njerae, allowing her music to reach a global audience and securing her place on the biggest stages.”

With UMG’s cutting-edge resources and Njerae’s unparalleled artistry, the future of music in Kenya—and beyond—looks brighter than ever.
