An Investor Tried to Bribe Me with KSh 50 Million – Sonko

Former governor of Nairobi county Mike Mbuvi, alias Mike Sonko, has come out to say that someone attempted to bribe him with Ksh 50 million.

The money was meant to be a bribe for him to allow the construction of a building overlooking the UN to continue. This was after Sonko’s team had battled their team in court and won the cases.

“Tulipeana noticed that he had to remove the other floors. Abaki na ile imekubaliwa na sheria. So the guy took us to court. We went to the high court. We filed a very strong defence. We won the case. He went to the court of appeal, we won the case. So what did we have to do? We had to bring down the building,” Sonko said.

“After winning that case, the investor of that particular building came to see me na doo. Na mita finje,” he added.

He remarked that he informed the EACC and rejected the money to save the jobs of Kenyans who are employed by the United Nations and the embassies around Gigiri. According to his account of the events, the United Nations had already decided to leave Nairobi. They only reconsidered their decision after Sonko and his team had to pull down the building.

Speaking in an interview with Obinna on Obinna TV, Sonko also narrated how during his time as governor he ensured people in Pangani were compensated with KSh 600, 000 which they were to use to pay rent for 12 months. This was during the Pangani affordable housing project which Sonko had begun before he lost his seat by way of impeachment.
