Man Charged With Murder in Connection to Tupac Shakur’s Killing

On Friday, a Las Vegas man was arrested and charged in connection to the fatal shooting of rap star, Tupac Shakur in 1996. Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis has been officially charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon.

The Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo called Davis the “on-ground, on-site commander” who “ordered the death” of Tupac Shakur. The Las Vegas police had searched Davis’ home in the connection with the investigation of Shakur’s murder back in July.

According to the warrant, the authorities searched Davis’ home, specifically looking at the electronic devices like laptops, USBs, Compact Disks, external hard drives, and audio recordings.

There was attempt to reach Davis, a former gang member, since the warrant of arrest but received no response. It is unclear whether he has a lawyer. The search warrant was arguably the biggest development in the unsolved homicide in years.

Retired Los Angeles police detective Geeg Kading told the Associated Press that itvwas Davis’ own book that would likely, finally result in charges in the 1996 murder. He mentioned that prior to Davis’ public declarations, the cases were unprosecutable as they stood.

Keffe D has long said that he was in the front seat of the car involved in the drive-by shooting. In 2018, Davis claimed on an episode of BET’s Death Row Chronicles that he knew who killed Shakur.

“Going to keep it for the code of the street. It just came from the backseat bro.”

Davis did not deny that his late nephew Orlando Anderson could have been the killer and he did not mention any names. He later wrote about it in his tell-all memoir in 2019, Compton Street Legend.

“Tupac made an erratic move and began to reach down beneath his seat. It was the first and only time I could relate to the police command, ‘keep your hands where I can see them.’ Instead, Pac pulled out a strap, and that is when the fireworks started. One of my guys from the back seat grabbed the Glock and started bustin’ back.”

Davis has long claimed that he did not shoot Tupac, instead saying his cousin Orlando ‘Babylane’ Anderson was the one who killed Shakur. Anderson was killed two years later in 1998, in a gang related shooting in Compton.

The other two associates in the car with Davis that night of the shooting are also dead. Terrence ‘Bubble’ Brown was shot and killed in 2015 and Davis claims that DeAndre ‘Freaky’ Smith is also dead, making him the last witness besides Knight.

Tupac was shot in September 7 1996 while en route to a nightclub with Suge Knight, Death Row Records co-founder following a Mike Tyson fight. A white Cadillac pulled up next to Shakur and Knight’s car that was idling at a stoplight, and unidentified gunman fired 14 shots. Shakur was hit 4 times and died days later on September 13 1996.
