Nigeria is getting serious about coconuts. People in Nigeria love coconut water and oil, but they don’t produce enough of it. People from Nigeria have to rely on other countries for coconuts, and that’s causing problems.
Importers are struggling because the police and customs officers sometimes stop them from moving coconuts around, even though it’s not illegal. This has hurt our coconut industry and the people who depend on it.

There are a few reasons for this mess. It takes a long time for our coconut trees to grow, and the government recently stopped giving discounts on fuel, which makes things more expensive.
Experts confirmed that there is hope if the government offers to help out. If they do things right, they could make between one to two billion dollars from coconuts. That’s a favourable amount of money that could help Nigeria as a country.
