Ex-Convict Arrested for Planning Al-Shabaab Attacks

The police have arrested a 41-year-old ex-convict, Ferdinand Indangasi,in Dagoreti suspected of having ties to the notorious extremist group al-Shabaab. The arrest took place near Skymatt supermarket in Riruta, where Indangasi was found in possession of suspected cocaine, a firearm with ammunition, and extremist teachings associated with the terror organization.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) issued a statement on Friday confirming the arrest and the subsequent findings. According to the statement, the arrest was the result of an intelligence-led operation carried out in the Riruta area.

“In an intelligence-led operation conducted in the Riruta area of Dagoreti, Kiambu County, the sleuths pounced on Ferdinand Indangasi near Skymatt supermarket, and recovered five sachets of a white narcotic substance believed to be cocaine from his pockets,” stated the DCI.

Detectives from the DCI, accompanied by anti-terror police sleuths, managed to intercept Indangasi near Skymatt supermarket, recovering five sachets of a white narcotic substance believed to be cocaine from his pockets.

“Upon further scrutiny of the suspect’s mobile phone, the officers discovered radicalization literature with extremist teachings, linked to the Al-Shabaab terror network.” added the DCI.

During a thorough inspection of Indangasi’s residence, police discovered a cache of Ksh.31,000 in cash, along with a substantial quantity of 4-inch nails.

Authorities suspect that the nails were intended for use in crafting improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This discovery underscores the need for heightened vigilance against potential terror threats within the region.

The Ex-Convict past raises further red flags, as investigations by the DCI-Anti Terror unit revealed that he had previously served a lengthy 15-year sentence at the Shimo La Tewa prison. The suspect’s criminal history suggests a propensity for engaging in unlawful activities.

“After conducting a background check of the suspect at the DCI-Anti Terror Police Unit headquarters, it was discovered that the suspect was a hardcore jailbird who had served 15 years behind bars at the Shimo La Tewa prison,” read the statement.

The apprehended individual is currently under interrogation by anti-terror detectives and is set to be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges related to his alleged involvement with extremist ideologies and possession of illicit substances.
