Rappers especially African American rappers are stereotyped as criminals and drug users. Most of them sing about violence, crime, sex and drugs not to mention their excessive use of profane language.
Rap was meant to be an expressive way for rappers to talk about their struggles as African Americans before all the cursing and auto-tunes came along. Rap was clean and had an agenda to it like a form of freedom fight. Like the song The Power by Snap.
For most, it may come as a surprise when they find out that some of the African American rappers that they love so much unlike others do not drink or smoke like most would think since they are in that bit of the industry, yet they still produce hits.
