Faith Kipyegon, a two time world record holder of the 1500m and 5000m race was crowned Sports Personality of the Month for June 2023 at SJAK( Sports Journalists Association of Kenya) Awards.
The double olympic champion won the title against Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet, Carl Tundo, McRae Kimathi, Emma Wangila Nekesa, and Moses Shummah.
Chebet won the 3,000m title at the Oslo Diamond League in eight minutes and 25.01 seconds, which was a world-leading time. For Tundo and Kimathi they were participants on all the WRC Safari Rally seasons, while Kakamega Homeboyz’s Moses Shummah scored for Harambee Stars in the Four Nations Tournament in Mauritius. The goal helped Kenya beat Pakistan, and this was the only victory for the national tournament.
Nekesa was shortlisted for being the only African wrestler and Kenyan to have qualified for the World Beach Games in Indonesia. She was eighth globally during the Singapore Beach Series.

Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) president James Waindi said,” The importance of the awards is to create enthusiasm for sports personalities across all disciplines.”
Angela Okutoyi, a Kenyan teen professional tennis player also won the award of the month of July last year. This came after she had won the grandslam title in the double’s category in Wimbledon, last year and also her excellent performance in the Australian Open.
Grace Adhiambo, a Kenyan olympian for the Lioness Women’s Rugby Sevens team also got to be crowned the sports personality for November, last year.

The fly-half steered the national women’s 15s team to win the Africa Cup Pool ‘B’ title, beating hosts Uganda 23-3 in the final played at the Wankulukuku Stadium in Kampala where she was declared the player of the match.
