President Ruto has warned MPs who intend to vote against the Finance Bill 2023 which is expected to be presented in parliament on Thursday June 8th 2023 for the second reading.
He made the remarks while attending Environment Cabinet Secretary, Soipan Tuya’s Thanksgiving ceremony in Narok county.
President Ruto further said that leaders opposing the bill are against plans to create employment. He added that the bill is meant to help him execute development project in his plan.
“I am waiting for the Members of Parliament who will go and vote against the employment of these young people, against housing that would give these people the chance to own a house with five percent mortgage,” President Ruto said.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that the Bill will pass despite the opposition. Other Kenya Kwanza members including Parliament Chief Whip Silvanus Osoro have vowed to ensure passing of the Bill.

The President also said that the MPs are opposing the Bill in order to exempt themselves from paying taxes. ‘’ I am waiting for the MPs who will vote against housing which affords Kenyans to own a decent home when you are getting a mortgage because of the taxes paid by the people of Kenya of three percent,’’ the president said.
Azimio leaders including Minority leader Opiyo Wandai have said that they will reject the controversial Finance Bill 2023. He said that Kenyans have rejected the Bill therefore the government should stop wasting time by reading the budget speech.
Former Prime minister Raila Odinga however says that the Coalition’s MPs have been asked to entirely reject the Bill and those who will vote in favor of the Bill will be traitors. He also says that passing the Bill will result to over-burdening an already overtaxed citizen. He threatened to return to protests should the Bill get passed.
‘’ We ask all Members of Parliament regardless of their coalition affiliation to stand with the people of Kenya and reject the Bill in its totality line by line. We will push for an open vote where one’s name is called out and he or she openly affirms ‘yes’ or ‘no’,’ ‘’ said Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka while at a thanksgiving ceremony in Yatta.

In response to Kalonzo Musyoka, the President said that he is in support of the open vote system which will help him keep an eye on the MPs who will be against the Bill.
