Gachagua told Azimio MPs to stop misleading Kenyans on opposing the finance bill. He said all they want is to excite the public and not to educate or help them. He mentioned the Bill intended to grow the country’s economy.

This comes after the MP of Kitui Central, Mulu, announced that he will oppose the bill when tabled. He mentions that the increased VAT on fuel from 8%- 16% and the 3% housing levy, as the most punitive and hurtful to Kenyans.

Makalu, the host of the event under Wiper Party, comments on the finance bill. He said it was not right for the government to tax Kenyans beyond their financial capacity and mentioned that though he is not a UDA shareholder, he represents the Kenyan taxpayer’s register.

In response to the arguments, the deputy president said it was the only way to guarantee the government won’t go on a borrowing spree. This essentially means that the government means to minimize the debt growth and manage to pay off the already accumulated amount.

“We need to pay more taxes, for the government to get accurate resources for the planned development expenditures, ” Gachagua commented

He implored the residents in attendance to reject being misled by people through regressive policies. That the policies proposed by Azimio to increase taxes will hurt the economy more than it will grow it.

This ceremony turned from a fundraising opportunity to a political event explaining the finance bill. During the event, Gachagua pledged to buy the school a bus as per the students’ request.
