Elon Musk plans to create ‘TruthGPT’, a truth-seeking artificial intelligence that will understand the universe and conclude whether it is safe for humans.
The billionaire hit at Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the firm behind chatbot sensation ChatGPT, of “training the AI to lie” and said OpenAI is a “closed source”, “for-profit” organisation “closely allied with Microsoft”.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter and Tesla Elon is out to nullify Microsoft and Google’s artificial intelligence efforts with “truth-seeking AI” that avoids political correctness.
“I’m going to start something which I call ‘TruthGPT’, or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk said in an interview with Fox News aired on Monday.
He also talked about his concerns about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence claiming it has the potential of civilization destruction. Elon Musk was also troubled that ChatGPT was being taught to be politically correct.
“I’m going to start something which is called TruthGPT, or an absolute truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk said. He saw to it that AI would see people as an interesting part of the universe and decide not to “annihilate humans.”
The founding of a rival to OpenAI came about several weeks before joining experts in signing an open letter agreement persuading a break in the development of AI technology. The letter was targeting all AI labs. It came out saying AI tools present “profound risks to society and humanity”.

Google, Meta and Microsoft have spent years working on AI systems previously known as machine learning. These particular tech companies aimed to help with translations, search and targeted advertising.
Musk said he was once close friends with Google co-founder Larry Page, and they would talk about AI safety till late night.
“He really seemed to want digital super-intelligence, basically digital good, as soon as possible,” Musk said of Page. “You can’t just go barreling forward and hope for the best.”
Musk co-founded OpenAI but left the company in 2018. Towards the end of last year, OpenAI gassed up the interest in AI with its launch of ChatGPT, which can generate natural-sounding text from a short prompt.
Since 2018, Microsoft has announced it is investing billions of dollars in OpenAI and has put its technology to work in its internet search service called Bing.
