China tests first ever Electric Levitation System

China has successfully tested its first high-temperature superconducting electric levitation system, which can eventually be used for high-speed and ultra-high-speed train service and low vacuum pipelines.

The test took place in the northeastern city of Changchun last week and marks several technological breakthroughs for the country, including in the areas of superconducting magnets, linear, synchronous traction, induction, power supply, and low-temperature refrigeration.

Experts from Chinese train makers’ CRRC say the successful tests lay a solid foundation for industrial applications in the next stages of development.
