Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game at the Bernabeu to send Los Blancos into the quarter-finals of the Champions League; Osimhen scores a brace for Napoli

On Wednesday night, the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 came to an end with the remaining fixtures seeing Real Madrid host Liverpool and Napoli hosting Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg. Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp showed his intent clear as they attempted to believe in a comeback against the comeback kings. The manager started the fixture with four forwards in an all-attack formation.

Despite the changes,it was Real Madrid who had a good start in the game with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson having to make a fantastic stop to deny Vinicius Jr a chance on goal. Real Madrid appear to have made a statement with the hard work done in the first leg. Whether they are drawn against AC Milan or Manchester City, Los Blancos mean business.

Eduardo Camavinga played in midfield alongside Real Madrid’s veterans Modric and Kroos and gave a standout performance with Ancelotti giving him 90 minutes of play. The young Frenchman’s curling shot in the first half was tipped off the bar by Alisson as Real continued to show their European football dominance.

There were no goals on this occasion for Vinicius Jr, but the Brazilian was once more a thorn in the flesh for Liverpool. He was only denied a goal by some desperate defense and great work in goal by Alisson, but he did contribute an assist; big game player.

Speaking in a post-match interview after securing the win for Real Madrid 12 minutes from time, Benzema noted, “It was a difficult game after the first leg, but from the start we wanted to go forward. It was a good game for the fans, for everyone, and we’re in the quarterfinals.”

On his injury scare late on he added, “It’s a knock, that’s all. I’ll be there [for the Clasico on Sunday].”

The 6-2 aggregate loss Liverpool suffered against Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 match is their largest losing margin over two legs.
