Eric Omondi Arrested for Demonstrating Half-Naked Outside Parliament

Comedian Eric Omondi has been arrested after attempting to storm the Parliament in protest against the high cost of living in the country.

According to news circulating on social media platforms, Omondi was in the company of other activists who blocked Parliament Road on Tuesday, February 21, in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) in their attempt to push for the government to reduce the prices of basic commodities.

Their effort to storm Parliament buildings was stopped after police officers manned the equipped driving away the group of protesters.

Singing in the Swahili language ‘Bado mapambano’ means the struggle continues, the bear chest group led by the comedian chanted while calling on the Kenya Kwanza leaders including the National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula to address the issue.

At the Parliament, the police who were taking control of the Parliament buildings cast tear gas at them.

The group of protesters on the other hand received support from Azimio la Umoja leaders who called on other Kenyan citizens to give more demands and pressure on President William Ruto’s government over the hard-pressing cost of living.

“Welcome aboard Eric Omondi, more people will join our caravan soon for the identified change in our country, whereby the cost of living is too high,” Narok Senator Ledama Olekina said.

The cost of living in Kenya is largely driven by the high rate of inflation which currently stands at about 9 percent, according to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

The inflation rates have significantly affected the price of basic commodities including maize flour, cooking oil, bread, and sugar.

President William Ruto earlier this year promised to lower the cost of living by lowering the prices of commodities including cooking oil, unga, bread, and sugar respectively.

The current retail price of unga is playing at Ksh 195, while 1kg of sugar goes for Ksh 146, and 1, litre of cooking oil goes for Ksh 360.
