Youth Affairs, Arts, and Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has launched the Talanta Hela Council and two technical committees aimed at nurturing talent
On Wednesday, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba launched two technical committees (for Sports and Creatives) as well as Talanta Hela Council to oversee the nurturing of talent, by providing jobs and driving growth in Kenya and internationally.
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba’s expressed his optimism about the ‘exciting’ new approach that will include more in the talent search, contrary to the previous years. The CS noted that the government will collaborate closely with schools and off-season tournament organizers to identify the top athletes who will be invited for trials at the National Sports Academy Center in Nairobi.
According to theStar, Radull was named chair of the committee by Sports CS Ababu Namwamba for a three-year term in a gazette notice on February 6, 2023. The committee members include; former Harambee Stars international and FKF vice chairman Sammy Sholei, ex-Harambee Star Boniface Ambani, and former World Athletics Championship javelin gold medalist Julius Yego.

Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki is the chairperson of the Creative Technical Committee whereas Namwamba’s Talanta Hela council comprises Dennis Itumbi, Jane Chepkemei, and Charles Gacheru among others.
Speaking at Kasarani, Namwamba said,
“To nurture them and help them get on well in life, we will engage people as young as 10 years to 19 years to learn basics that will benefit them in future. With Talanta Hela, we are putting money in the pockets of the youth.”
The Sports CS added, “We have many brilliant programs in the Talanta Hela initiative, but we start with the Bottom-Up football tournament with a vision of Kenya participating in the 2027 Afcon and 2030 World Cup finals.”
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba noted that the government will be working closely with schools, sports bodies, and governments in the 47 counties to develop talent countrywide. The Bottom-Up Tournament is to start from the ward level to the national finals, which will be played on 12th December, on Jamhuri Day, with President William Ruto likely serving as the guest of honor. The competition will span 10 regions.
CS Namwamba was accompanied by Principal Secretaries, Jonathan Mueke and Ismail Maalim from his ministry and Education Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang’.
