George Magoha Dies After the Death of his Two Brothers

Former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha died aged 71 years at Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday, January 24 following cardiac arrest.

Magoha’s death comes just a month following the passing on of his younger brother Alex Nyabera Magoha.

The cause of Alex’s death in the US was not immediately publicised. Alex is survived by his wife, Janet Achieng Magoha, and three children; Crystal Magoha, Ashley Magoha and Bernard Magoha.

“Cortege will leave Agha Khan Funeral Home Kisumu, on Saturday, January 28, for a memorial requiem mass at Township Primary School Yala at 10:00 am followed by intermittent at his Umiru home in Yala, Gem, Sub-County,” Alex’s obituary read in part.

“Magoha, Alex Richard Nyabera 68 was a loving, caring, devoted husband and father. He was very involved in the lives of his children and family,” an obituary published by Bedford Memorial Funeral Home on December 6, added.

Further, in 2021 the family ended up in shocking suspense following the death of their other brother.

Charles Agunga Magoha died on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, but the cause of his death was unclear.

A family friend of the late Magoha narrated the events before the death of former Kenya’s Education minister.

Speaking to the media yesterday (Tuesday, January 24, 2023) at Nairobi’s Lee funeral home, Walter Owanda said in a statement that Magoha had collapsed 4 times before his death.

“He greeted me and said “ooh you have come”, I started taking his blood pressure, but it was not recording, after some time he slept off from his sitting position and we took him to the car. The wife and my driver followed. They were ahead of us about 200 metres,” said Walter Owanda.
