Four people died and 20 others were injured after a miraa-ferrying vehicle collided with a Land Rover pickup carrying passengers at Athiru Gaiti, Meru.
According to eyewitnesses, the Land Rover pick-up was carrying excess passengers, hence resulting in a deadly accident leaving at least Twenty injured and Four killed in the incident.
The injured were rushed to Nyambene Sub-County Hospital for medical attention on Wednesday, January 11.
In a statement, Superintendent at Nyambene Sub-County Hospital Medical Dr. Githu Wachira said that he received 32 patients where two of whom were already dead while the other two succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
“Eight of the patients have since been referred to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital for advanced medical care due to their severe injuries got during the accident”, Said Wachira.

“There are 8 patients who are in critical condition and are being taken to Meru, but the remaining are being treated. All the 32 passengers were young men,” Dr. Githu Wachira added.
One of the survivors in the accident David Mugambi said the driver noted that the brakes had failed at the time when the incident happened.
