Kenya: A suspected robber was shot dead on Wednesday, November 9 by police at night while trying to steal valuables from a university student in Thika town, Kiambu County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations-DCI stated that the student from Thika Technical Institute was heading to his residential house when he was stopped by three (3) armed gangs at Gatitu corner.
With immediate effect, the student was rescued by the police officers on duty and escorted to his residential house while the suspect’s body was taken to the General Kago hospital mortuary with pending identification.
Seeing a red light signal from the police, the remaining two (2) suspects abandoned their getaway motorbike and took off.
The gang’s blue motorbike registration number KMDS 602K was impounded and is currently at Thika police station as investigations aimed at arresting the other two suspects gearing up at a progressive concern.
Notably, at the scene, the police recovered the victim’s mobile phone which was in the suspect’s pocket, a sharp machete, and a homemade firearm tucked in a criminal’s genitals.

The DCI said in a statement that the student by the name of Onyi made a strong alarm which resulted in a quick response from the police officers whereby they gunned down one suspect and other two taking off due to the police’s control.
