NYAMIRA, Kenya; Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has with immediate effect sent all enforcement officers, supervisors, and revenue officers in the revenue department on a one-month compulsory leave due to increased loss of revenue collection in the county.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at the county headquarters, Amos Nyaribo stated that a lack of trust accompanied by corruption from these officers has led to loss of revenues in the past months.
Giving a factual image he either noted that his government conducted strong investigative procedures on why the revenue decreased and found out that the officers who are employees of the county government are strategically corrupt in all means to benefit themselves.
“We purely found out that our esteemed employees who collect revenues end up pocketing half of the money which they have collected from the members of the public,” Governor Nyaribo significantly said in a statement.
He also added that we must wake up and fight the disease called corruption by all means and take punishing actions against those involved in the whole process.
On the other hand, Nyamira Governor asked the officers to return any property belonging to the County government to the head officers and their uniforms and smartly fill out the forms as they go home.
Furthermore, the governor simply noted that the county has not been able to meet its targets because the money collected ended up in the officers’ pockets.
Also, the Governor clarified that the county is not able to carry out any developmental projects whose main source comes from revenue collection.
Finally, he magnificently asked the Nyamira County residents to be more careful and not to allow officers to involve them in any case of bribery because the revenue collected will help the county deliver the esteemed developmental projects and services to them at large.
