Manchester United boss, Erik Ten Hag says he is still confident Portuguese striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, will stay and play a pivotal role in the club beyond the January transfer window.
Ronaldo was consequently dropped from the squad going to London to face Chelsea as punishment for him refusing to come in as a late substitute and later leaving off the pitch on Wednesday, after winning against Tottenham.
The Dutchman says he does not expect Ronaldo to leave despite their misunderstandings in the last match and believes he still has much to offer the Old Trafford outfit.
In the pre-match conference against Chelsea, Ten Hag was asked whether Cristiano would remain at the club for the rest of the season and whether he would let him stay.
“Both,” he replied.
“It [dropping Ronaldo] is for this game and then we continue. It’s a strike. As we said in the statement, Cristiano remains an important part of the squad and I count on him for the rest of the season. We want to fulfil our ambitions.”
