Just a recap, the raw and revealing series touches on the daily lives, complexities of love and complicated sexual relationships of the youth. The drama series follows a group of young Kenyans in Nairobi city, living the fast life as they try to make something out of themeselves.
It shines a light on the consequences of short-cuts and temporary, short-time pleasures. Revealing the dangers of sugar daddies (present day “mubabaz”), cheating, unprotected sex, sleeping your way to the “top,” not knowing your status and ‘daddy issues’.
The Gist: This production contained three interlinked storylines.
On the first season, we are introduced to Ayira, a young woman in college who wants it all; the dream job, the long-time boyfriend and an older man, who happens to be her ticket to the dream job.
The second storyline follows Baby, a young teenage girl with a dead-beat dad and an ever elusive mother, entrusted to the uncle.
Finally, the third storyline features Kipepeo, a young, naive, beautiful woman from the village who’s dream is to be a musician, but life in the city is not what she had in mind.
At the Daily Soup, we rank it as Gold. A must watch in this day and age. Why? Because it revolves around very sensitive issues, not sacrificing the plotline ofcourse.
Fun fact: The series was a multimedia campaign by UNICEF in partnership with MTV Staying Alive Foundation, the Government of Kenya and others, geared to achieving a HIV free generation.
