The Kenya National Highways Authority has announced a partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way in the Westlands area for three months to allow construction of new pedestrian infrastructure.
The affected stretch lies on the Nakuru-bound side between Karuna Close and the Westlands Roundabout, in the heart of Westlands. The works are scheduled to begin on June 25, 2026, and run until September 25, 2026.
In a public notice, KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli said the disruption is necessary to complete key safety upgrades.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road from Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” the authority said.
Footbridges, diversions and daily commuter delays
KeNHA says the closure will allow engineers to extend the pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers Footbridge and construct a new crossing near the Fogo Gaucho–QuickMart Westlands area. The aim, officials say, is to improve pedestrian safety along a corridor long associated with heavy traffic and frequent crossings.

During the works, traffic will be diverted to an existing service lane. The authority has urged motorists to follow temporary signage and instructions from traffic marshals.
For commuters who rely on Waiyaki Way daily, the announcement signals months of slower journeys, especially during morning and evening peak hours. The corridor connects key residential and business districts and often carries heavy flow into and out of Nairobi’s city centre.
KeNHA has advised road users to plan ahead and expect delays as construction progresses.
