Senegal Opens CHAN Title Defense with Two-Week Training Camp in Toubab Dialaw

TOUBAB DIALAW — Senegal’s home-based national team has entered a two-week residential training camp as it prepares to defend its African Nations Championship (CHAN) crown. The camp, which began on June 30 at the Jules François Bocandé Technical Development Centre in Toubab Dialaw, marks the first phase of preparations ahead of the tournament set for August 2 to 30 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The squad includes 28 players, most of them drawn from top-tier clubs in the Senegalese domestic league. Teungueth FC, the reigning Ligue 1 champions, leads the pack with four players called up.

The training camp will focus on tactical drills, fitness conditioning, and building team chemistry as the Teranga Lions aim to replicate their 2023 CHAN triumph in Algeria.

Senegal has been drawn into Group D, alongside Nigeria, Sudan, and Congo. Their title defense begins against Nigeria on August 5 at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, setting up a fierce West African rivalry to kick off the campaign.

Senegal’s football federation has stressed early preparation as key to maintaining the team’s dominance in African football. The team’s technical staff will use the camp to assess player readiness and finalize squad composition before heading to East Africa.

The African Nations Championship is reserved for players who feature in their home country’s domestic leagues, and Senegal remains the team to beat following a disciplined and tactically sharp run in the previous edition.

With expectations running high, all eyes will be on how head coach and his team navigate a tough group and whether the Teranga Lions can hold onto the crown they proudly lifted less than two years ago.
