ELGEYO MARAKWET — Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has backed President William Ruto’s reelection bid, saying the Head of State will serve two full terms. He urged those pushing for Ruto’s exit to prepare for the 2027 election instead of engaging in street protests.
Speaking during a funeral in Kapcherop on Thursday, Sudi dismissed slogans such as “Ruto Must Go” and “One Term” as baseless. He said the opposition must wait for the ballot box to express its discontent.
“Those shouting in the streets should wait for elections. We will win again early in the morning,” Sudi said. “No president in Kenya has ever served just one term.”
He likened the criticism Ruto is facing to the doubts he encountered when he was first elected MP. “They said I wouldn’t last in office. Now I’m in my third term,” he added. “The same people are now saying Ruto won’t get a second term. They’ll be shocked.”
Sudi also addressed Kenya’s youth, particularly Gen Z, who have been central to recent protests against the government. He urged them to register as voters instead of limiting their political participation to social media activism.
“Gen Z should get voter cards before making noise about ‘One Term’. Let’s focus on our jobs now politics will come next year,” he said.
On the topic of ongoing public protests, Sudi revealed that Parliament is working on a new Public Order law that will establish designated protest zones across the country. He emphasized that the proposed legislation would limit protests near critical government buildings.
“Anyone who wants to demonstrate will have to do so in a specific area,” Sudi warned. “If you cross the line, there will be consequences.”
He insisted that while the right to protest is protected, national security must remain a priority. Sudi said the government supports free expression, but only through peaceful and lawful means.
“We are not here to silence anyone,” he added. “But we must have order. We can’t allow protests to disrupt national stability.”
His remarks come amid growing national debate over the scope and conduct of public demonstrations, with many young Kenyans demanding economic reforms, job opportunities, and greater accountability.
Oscar Sudi, a UDA member and ally of President Ruto, maintained that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to stability, economic progress, and ensuring democratic space for all citizens.
