Ferdinand Omanyala‘s season has ended early. A stress fracture has forced him out. The Kenyan sprinter will miss his final races. The injury is to his left heel bone.
A Sudden Setback
Omanyala revealed the news on Tuesday. He said the injury was suffered weeks ago. The setback came before the Commonwealth Games. He still competed despite the problem.
But the injury has now forced a halt. Brussels will be missed this week. The Diamond League Final is scheduled there. The Ultimate Championship will also be missed.
“I won’t be able to compete in my final two races,” Omanyala said.
A Strong Campaign

The season had offered plenty of promise. Consistency had returned to his sprinting. A Diamond League victory had also been secured. Five straight sub-10 runs had followed.
Omanyala opened with a win in Nairobi. He clocked 9.96 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic. A second-place finish came in Shanghai. His time there was 9.98 seconds.
Another Diamond League win was then recorded. A 9.94-second run was posted in Xiamen. The national title was later claimed. He won Kenya’s 100m race in 10.00 seconds.
Brussels Dream Ends

Omanyala had earned a place in Brussels. He was third in the 100m standings. World Athletics listed him on 19 points. He was tied with Trayvon Bromell and Jordan Anthony.
The Brussels final will now go ahead without him. It is set for September 4 and 5. A historic chance has therefore been lost. Omanyala had hoped to become Kenya’s first sprint winner.
Pride Despite Pain
The injury has ended a promising campaign. But Omanyala has looked back with pride. He described the season as one to celebrate. Thanks were also offered to his team.
His coach was thanked for the support. Sponsors and partners were also acknowledged.
“Not quite the finish we had planned,” he said. “But there is so much from this season to celebrate.”
For now, recovery will take priority. The track will have to wait.
