Kenya, UK Strike New Deal to Boost Trade, Expand Green Investment
Kenya and the United Kingdom have renewed their strategic partnership, outlining a new agreement to strengthen trade, expand digital innovation, and fund infrastructure projects.

President William Ruto met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday at 10 Downing Street in London. The two leaders announced a new five-year pact that succeeds the 2020–2025 framework.

“This agreement will double the volume of trade between Kenya and the UK in the next five years,” President Ruto said. “It will create wealth and jobs, and deliver real economic impact.”
The renewed partnership targets growth in digital technology, green energy, and infrastructure. A key focus is the Nairobi Railway City Project, which Ruto identified as the flagship initiative under the new deal.
“The project will improve mobility, stimulate growth, and drive prosperity in the Nairobi Metropolitan area,” Ruto said. He confirmed that Kenya is finalizing the financing plan and will provide its share of the funding.
The agreement also aims to scale up investment in digital startups and expand access to capital for climate-focused projects.
Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and security. Ruto praised the continued cooperation on defense, citing progress under the Kenya–UK Defence Cooperation Agreement.
“The agreement has delivered clear benefits, and we remain committed to its full and timely execution,” he said.
The new pact builds on longstanding ties between the two nations, with emphasis on shared priorities including economic growth, security, and sustainable development.
