Kibera Soccer Edge Vihiga Queens to Lift 2025 FKF Women’s Cup in Nakuru
Kibera Soccer Women FC were crowned 2025 FKF Women’s Cup champions after a dramatic 1-0 win over Vihiga Queens on Saturday, June 28, at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

The match remained goalless until the final minute when Stellah Odhiambo scored the decisive goal. The substitute timed her run perfectly to meet a cross from Yvonne Idagiza, sending the ball past Vihiga’s goalkeeper Vivian Khayati. The goal sparked jubilant scenes on the Kibera bench and among their traveling supporters.

Kibera had earlier threatened to take the lead in the 14th minute. Faith Mboya struck the crossbar with a powerful shot, denying her side a first-half advantage. Despite more attacking attempts from both sides, neither team managed to break the deadlock before halftime.
Vihiga pushed hard for an equalizer after conceding but Kibera’s defense stayed compact, keeping them at bay until the final whistle.
“This was not an easy game, but the girls stayed focused,” said Kibera head coach David Busego after the win. “We missed chances in the first half, but corrected that in the second. I’m proud of how we finished.”
Vihiga Queens coach Boniface Nyamunyamu accepted the defeat, acknowledging his team’s final-minute lapse. “We lost focus at the end and got punished,” he said. “Both teams gave a good account. We’ll review and come back stronger.”
Kibera’s standout performer, Faith Mboya, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Vihiga’s Diana Cheron won the Golden Boot, and teammate Vivian Khayati took home the Best Goalkeeper award.
Kibera walked away with KSh 650,000 in prize money, while runners-up Vihiga received KSh 100,000. The cash prizes were sponsored by betPawa, who also supported the tournament through the Locker Room Bonus (LRB) initiative. The initiative awarded KSh 4.3 million in direct payments to players and coaching staff throughout the competition.
“This was high-quality football,” said betPawa Kenya partner Cynthia Onyango during the trophy ceremony. “Today proved that Kenyan women’s football has depth and talent.”
Kibera and Vihiga reached the final after defeating Kenya Police Bullets and Bungoma Queens respectively in the semifinals. This year’s edition featured 32 teams, with nationwide participation and competitive matches across all rounds.
The FKF Women’s Cup final showcased the growing strength and visibility of women’s football in Kenya, highlighting emerging talent and expanding opportunities for female athletes on the national stage.
